Compassion in the Gulf Flyer

JOIN US AUGUST 6TH - FUNDRAISER

Please come out to Windoz Grill in Millersville on Friday evening, August 6th for an evening of FUNdraising for Compassion in the Gulf.

Restaurant owners Ron & Ryan Felpel will be hosting the big event from 8 to Midnight. There will be a $10 Admission Charge and all that money is being donated to the travel and lodging expenses for the Chaplains trip to work with the people of the Gulf Coast suffering from the BP oil spill. The usual Windoz menu will be available in the restaurant and outside too.

Taylor Merrill - The Funniest Chef in the World (if his cooking doesn't kill you, you will die laughing). Last event, Taylor packed the house at Windoz. His shows at Gusto are legendary.

DJ Kani - The best DJ in the area will be manning the sounds all evening.

Auction - An auction of donated items will take place during the evening. We are offering everything from Zen Buddhist painting to custom handmade pottery to framed Beatles poster and lots of other cool stuff. If you would like to donate something please let us know by email at compassioninthegulf@gmail.com.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? An explosion on the ultra-deep water rig, Deepwater Horizon, on April 20, 2010 resulted in an inextinguishable fireball, sinking the rig two days later. Eleven men were killed. The blown out well gushed for months, discharging over 200 millions gallons of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

The impact of this disaster is monumental. The physical and psychological toll continues to mount as residents of the Gulf coast bear the brunt of the fallout.

On August 19, 2010, Lititz resident and Buddhist Priest, Bob Merrill and a group of second year students in the chaplaincy program at Upaya Zen Center will travel to the epicenter of this catastrophe to spend one week with the people, animals and the environment; bearing witness and being with the situation at its worst. The chaplaincy students will spend time in Grand Isle, Louisiana and other locations in the region this disaster has touched. We believe this will be the first of many trips during the recovery period.

As Buddhists we vow not to turn away from suffering. We vow to heal ourselves and others; willingly piercing the unknown in order to discover what may be of benefit in the grimmest situations.

This trip is being organized and funded in part by the philanthropreneurial arm of the consulting company 3 Smart Girlz, LLC, individual contributions and the students' own donation of time and money. One hundred percent of all contributions will go directly to offset the expenses incurred by the Chaplains.

Here in Central PA, Bob Merrill has established "Compassion in the Gulf" to generate awareness and to raise funds for the trip. He is a recent graduate of the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Chaplain Internship Program; and will be taking what he learned at HMC to the Gulf in hopes of relieving the suffering of living beings there.

A NIGHT OF GREAT MUSIC & COMEDY - Where else can you hear hot sounds and even hotter comedy for only TEN BUCKS? So plan on a great time, for a great cause. Come out to Windoz Grill on FRIDAY, AUGUST 6TH for a good time. Remember, we put the FUN in FUNdraising!
